Located in a historic area of Haikou,south China"s Hainan Province, Haikou Qilou Old Street has been renovated. Thehistorical and cultural block was listed as a national-level tourism andleisure district in China.

Haikou Qilou Old Street has ahistory spanning more than 100 years. The block has witnessed many vicissitudesof Haikou, a long-time commercial trade port city of the South China Sea. Thisprovincial capital city is also a typical illustration of cultural blending inChina. Qilou buildings are one example.

Qilou, also known as arcadehouses, are usually two or four stories high, and a ground floor is used as astorefront. These arcade houses are linked together, forming a special streetview. As one of the iconic signatures of the city, this exceptionalarchitecture style is a blend of European and Asian heritage. The first qilouin Haikou were built in 1849. It was introduced to Haikou by merchants. Today,qilou are used for both commercial and residential purposes.

Located in the downtown area,Haikou Qilou Old Street presents a rich history and local culture. What"s more,it is a popular tourist spot featuring many time-honored brands, restaurants,shops and leisure spots. Many cultural events, folk activities, and local festivalsare often held there.
